In early childhood education, we wear many hats—teacher, guide, listener, caregiver, curriculum designer, emotional anchor—and yet, too often, we wear them without enough support ourselves.
At HeartLead NZ, we believe that the wellbeing and capability of teachers is the heartbeat of high-quality early learning. When kaiako feel empowered, understood, and resourced, they are able to show up fully for children—creating spaces of warmth, curiosity, and deep learning. That’s where HeartLead NZ comes in.

Where it all began
HeartLead NZ was born from what I saw—and felt—firsthand as a teacher, leader, mentor, and PLD facilitator. Time and time again, I met educators who were passionate about their work, but overwhelmed by documentation, unsure about leadership, or left feeling isolated in their growth.
I noticed a gap. A need for support that felt practical, heart-centred, and real. Not more pressure—more purpose.
So I set out to create a platform that offers what I would have wanted earlier in my own journey: honest tools, reflective resources, and empowering mentorship to help kaiako grow with confidence and intention.
What ECE support we offer
HeartLead NZ is here to walk alongside you. Whether you're a beginning teacher, a centre leader, or somewhere in between, our resources are designed to help you grow—not just as an educator, but as a whole person.
Here’s what you’ll find:
Reflective tools and planning templates that simplify your mahi
Play therapy-informed strategies that support tamariki wellbeing (still to come!)
Professional development that is grounded, relatable, and relevant
Mentoring sessions tailored to your unique context and goals
A blog and newsletter filled with insights, encouragement, and inspiration
A values-led approach rooted in Connection, Freedom, Authenticity, Advocacy, and Empowerment

Our point of difference: therapeutic-informed teaching
At the heart of our work is a strong belief in the power of relationships—and that includes how we respond to children's emotions and behaviours. HeartLead NZ integrates play therapy-informed strategies into everyday practice, helping educators support emotional development, manage challenging behaviour, and create environments where every child feels safe and seen.
This isn’t about adding more to your to-do list—it’s about transforming how we see and support children through the lens of empathy and development.
This is a movement, not just a website
HeartLead NZ is more than just downloadable resources or PD sessions. It’s a place to reconnect with the why behind your teaching. To reflect deeply, to lead courageously, and to stay grounded in what really matters.
We believe empowered kaiako are the heart of quality ECE. We’re building a community of educators who believe in heart-first practice and whole-child learning—without the burnout, the jargon, or the pressure to get it all right.
Whether you’re new to the sector, stepping into leadership, or feeling ready to reimagine your approach to ECE support, you are welcome here.
